Surgery in a few days. Will be out for months. Any tips on keeping size and keeping from going stir crazy?

That’s terrible news to get, but very common as the body over compensates when there is an injury. I’d strongly suggest good sports physical therapy after the procedure to retrain the body to align. Will help set you up right in the gym.

As for size- it all comes down to diet. Over the last few months I had gyno surgery which I planned to be a few week recovery as I had work commitments and was going to Columbia for stem cells. I developed hematomas on both sides very bad because the drains weren’t placed low enough. So we had to go back in both sides and then I had to go twice weekly for about another month to have the sites drained with a needle.

I could barely lift my arms and was bruised from my neck through my legs. Doc said it could be up to 6 months.

Fast forward, you saw my recent pic on here. I maintained that by honestly eating my baseline meals every day no matter what. I had meals prepped through every appointment, had them ready for me in Columbia, hit my steps and did whatever I could in the gym.

Used used all my supplements, Life Support by AA, TB, BPC, Copper Peptide, added bone broth to meals and yes still kept gear in to be fully transparent.

But I contribute most of it to the diet and eating my off day baseline menu. I was going stir crazy and it was not easy, but so glad I did because it’s like I didn’t miss a beat and was a month instead of 6.

You got this and either way- it’s smart to get it done sooner rather than later IMO as the more you delay, the older you get and either way you’ll have to have that recovery window.

Nothing beats a good comeback! 😎
This. I didn't read entire thread but the quality of the pt is the big key. They range anywhere from people who just work with lawyers to run up accident bills to the same pt that work with local sports teams. Some will run some cream on massage it call it a day. Others have real strength training equipment and work to get you back to 100 percent so it's like you were never injured.

You really seem to have a good outlook/ approach to this whole thing, I guess being through it in the not so distant past has taught you that it's not the end of the world.

Sorry to hear things didn't go as planned, I'm glad they do have a plan for you though and I'm sure the next one will be successful. Wishing you all the best man!
Appreciate that and you’re spot on. I had my surgery in October and by March I was looking better than before the surgery. I guess I needed the deload and I learned that as long as you keep nutrition in check, especially keeping protein high, that you won’t lose much at all and the rest of it comes back quick. I should mention that I did stay on PEDs, which obviously played a role in retaining lean mass.

Did you have your surgery yet?

I would def be running 5iu plus a day along with the elevated TRT dose

I would not run any growth hormone. Infact if you go to a Ortho who knows what he is doing he will place you on nsaid for 28 days to prevent the bone from regrowing. Growth hormone can cause bone reformation in the same spot you don’t want.

You most likely will also be on asn twice a day to prevent blood clots. Who is your Ortho doc?

I was on Celebrex as an NSAID. No bone regrowth in post op imaging done at 6 weeks post op and 3 months post op. I used 10iu daily.

That's awesome, super motivating for me! It's not an easy time to stay on plan, especially hard to actually make improvements so well done for that.

I did have surgery last Thursday, it was successful but ended up being bigger than expected. Just trying to get through the initial phase of swelling and pain control now, seeing the Orthopedic on Thursday and I'm hoping he says I can start training legs.

I have stayed on PEDs as well, 150mg test and 150mg deca with 2.5iu gh. Also added some Tb500 and Bpc.

I haven't checked in here in a while. I had my 3rd surgery a couple weeks ago and things went better than expected. We went with Open Hip Ostectomy instead of Arthroscopic and I am really glad we did. Risk of complications was much higher going with open surgery due to the location and proximity to a large bundle of nerves, arteries etc but my surgeon was confident he could get it done. Pain level post surgery was a night and day difference. I expected it to be worse but I've had considerably less pain post op this go around.

I was able to start walking around at about a week and right now you'd be hard pressed to notice I had surgery just by looking at me moving around. I started PT yesterday and the goal is to be back at the gym in 8 weeks with lighter weights and back at 100% in 12 weeks. They adjusted the time frames since I healed up so quickly from the prior surgeries. I love that they're tailoring things to me and my body and not going off some cookie cutter plan.

Im really comfortable moving around already, I just don't have my balance back 100% yet. It's something I only noticed when doing some one-legged PT.

If anybody reading this is in a similar position to where I was at the beginning of this thread, get the surgery. It was 100% worth it, even with the hiccup from the second surgery.

That's great news! We put so much time and effort into our physiques!!

Dammit, so they cut and reshaped your femur bone? Man that just sounds like a terrible recovery!!! Glad it hasn’t been!

Glad things are moving forward for you brother 💪

Thanks guys. The past 18 months has just been me yo yo-ing between surgeries. Pushing hard for a few months and then being laid out for a few months. I was just trying to maintain what I had and getting frustrated in the process. Now I've got some runway and am ready for a real push in a couple months.

Yup and they reshaped the cam of the hip as well. First recovery was definitely tougher than the last but all in all the whole thing was better than expected pain and time wise. Thanks Cage.

Glad you’re on the other side of all of it and sounds like you’re set up to push and have a very productive phase going forward.

Much respect for still staying in the shape you have and not just throwing it all out the window as many do during stuff like this. It’s very easy to do.

Appreciate that BBX and the tips you've given me on making the most of my recovery. PT already has me doing squats, lunges, etc. So I've got that itch to get back into the gym. Not going to obviously but nothing like a little time off to get that fire going to get back at it.

Good progress and here's to you getting back to normal after all that...hang tough brother!

When a lot of this think of time off from a surgery it seems unimaginable that we could spend months out of the gym but the weights will always be there, and a few years down the road we realize what a short amount of time it was compared to all the years of lifting!

Awesome man. I know several guys who waited and waited to get hip surgery. They were stupid hard headed men. I told them and told them. Every single one of them after surgery said "I sure wish I would have done this a long time ago". DUH. I'm glad I'm not like that. If I'm in pain or having a problem I'm seeing a doc. I like feeling good and being able to do what I want too much to be a typical pig headed man and refuse to admit I need some help. It amazes me how fast people tend to recover from hip surgery. You would think it would take a long time.

I was really surprised to learn that most hip replacements have an even faster recovery rate than a hip ostectomy. A lot of people are sable to start walking the same day post surgery. That was really interesting to me considering they chop the head of femur off and replace it with titanium and that it's obviously an open surgery.

I'm 2 1/2 months post 3rd hip surgery. 3 surgeries in 11 months and I've healed up better than I expected. The wife and I just got back from a trip to Spain and I got in no less than 20,000 steps and got up to 25,000 on our last full day there. Which is something I couldn't dream of doing a year ago, let alone a few months ago. Once I get over this cold I caught at the tail end, should just be a few more days, I'm going to turn the dial to 11 and see what I can accomplish. Fucking ready!

Also to all you Spaniards out there. Loved your country and had a great time but your weed is shit, absolute dog shit and I went to a few different clubs. I needed 4 grams to do what 1 gram of bottom tier flower out here does lol. Still, nice that it was available and it made Picasso, Gaudi, Dali etc infinitely more interesting.

Sounds brutal, wishing all you guys a speedy recovery!! 💯
