Where does everyone live and how do you like it there?

I am in Alberta, born and raised here. I have lived in Australia, Taiwan, Wales and Vancouver BC.

I live in a great area outside of a major city. I can be in the rocky mountains in 20 minutes, air is super clean (unless arsonists are starting fires in BC/NWT/Yukon. Decently safe and a decent economy.

But our government is basically a tyrannical dictatorship.

Pretty much same thoughts as OP... I'm an hour northwest of Philly. Drive to the city 3x a week to work. Gas, traffic and parking costs... plus the time to commute... it's getting old but the money is still very good for now. Otherwise I'm over the constant dreary weather. Rains too much.

We have a nice home with an acre of land for the dogs and a 2.5% mortgage so I feel almost obligated to stay. Idk where else I'd go. Not Florida. Nowhere north. Maybe Carolina's? Some small beach town maybe? But cost of living is up everywhere. Wages down south haven't caught up at least in healthcare.

born in san diego , so many amenities to living here, but its going downhill FAST. beyond expensive to live, mayor wants to raise ca city sales tax to 9.5% this year, housing crisis, immigrant crisis causing school and hospital overload, gangs. CHARGERS LEFT. Its going very liberal which is fine until unsolicited agendas are forced down adult and youth. 15 min from beach , 1 hour from desert, 2 hours from snowboarding./skiiing, amazing hiking, best beaches, best Mexican food, crazy homelessness and drug problem. SD is the first hub after cartel crosses their goodies, the further any substance moves from the border here, the more "cut" and stomped out it is. we have a monopoly and only one energy company available to us (SDGE) who hikes up rates constantly, renter rates are insane, tons of people are leaving in mass exodus. sorry texas, az and new Mexico. oh and I'm a felon with a strike. I wont be here long

Suburbs outside of Dallas here. Lived in Seattle, San Diego, Virginia Beach and now out here for a decade.

I lived in arlington for 3 mo! used to go to lifetime fitness there my ex worked there. where in SD?

Coronado Island from 06-07 then over in PB from 07-09. Assuming the Lifetime Fitness in Mansfield? That is where I train currently. Small world haha.

yes @ mansfield! I am going to shoot you a pm , that's a nice ass gym bro!!!!! what city near there has the big outlet malls?
i miss texas . coronado island is way diff than anywhere else in sd culture wise. its nice! PB is crazy lol , party central , had some wild experiences there in my 20s at bar west etc

Near Mansfield the outlets I would say would be Grand Prairie. Place is stunning now. Their Police/Fire/City hall building got finished about three years ago. Looks like a space ship. Company called Epic also came in and right behind it built some massive 500,000 sq/ft structures. One is an indoor waterpark airconned to a perfect 78 degrees year round.

Brought all the boys from work a few years ago there for our NYE party. Lets just say it was a success haha.

I spent a majority of my career in the Navy. Unfortunately lets just say my time in SoCal was mostly the conversation of "I have $7 spare this week, lets go to the Firehouse for some free beers then grab two tacos". That was the extent of my partying time.

Born in SE Massachusetts, moved to Tokyo, Japan in 2007, permanent resident since 2009. Finally bough my own place last year, and I'm settled in and retiring here.
I love it. No place is perfect, but it's pretty close for me.
Safe, pleasant, accessible healthcare, great people, great transport, low cost of living, and a perfect mix of the old and new.
Tokyo is low cost of living??? 🤯🤯🤯 I’d imagine owning a decent sized home on 0.25-0.5 acres of land would be outrageously priced? And property taxes? I know nothing about Japan, but I figured the cost of living would be about the same as a place like New York City, Toronto Canada, or London England based on population density and land availability per square mile alone?? I’d like to hear more, if you don’t mind? 🙏🏾

I got curious and started looking. I don't imagine there would be too many traditional/US based single family home set ups. Think were looking more at flats/townhomes (maybe). Looks like you can snag a small one bedroom apartment in all sincerity at a much lower cost than most US cities

Hawk - definitely curious about this.

Ummm Tennessee is wide open, mild and quick winters, spring and summer most of the year, some of the lowest property taxes in the country, actual affordable homes on huge lots of land, including new construction, incredible hillside views, all the guns and ammo you can handle, illegal for aircrafts to spray overhead metals and aerosols, southern hospitality, genuinely nice people, hot chicken, southern cooking, no weed tho and probably will never be….

All in all though…stay out of Tennessee, you’ll hate it here.😆😬🤞🏾

Are you in PA or NJ? PA is much better with the taxes and you can still find something in a really nice town at a decent price. Not a bad state to retire in outside the climate. Philly is as bad as NYC these days. Florida - I’d probably run into more people I know in the Supermarket than I would where I live in NJ. SD would definitely be a change - but once the realtor sees I’m from NY/NJ they might throw me out of their office.

It’s a shame what has happened to that beautiful city - the entire state actually. My income has been pretty much the same for the past 10 years but prices have gone through the roof here in NYC/NJ area.

Just remember..whatever state you go to you are a refugee, not a missionary..act accordingly

I’m in Texas and people from your state and California have already fucked this place up by doing the same shit here they left their shithole states for
what is "the same shit" and how are they fucking up your state

An hour northwest of Philly wouldn't put me in NJ 😉. Messing w you. Outside Allentown. Taxes are good. I think we got a great deal on our home. Schools are good. Decent food/entertainment options and family is here. The weather has just become a drag. However it's affordable and allows us more discretionary funds for going out, vacations, etc.

My sister-in-law lives in Escondido. Before when she was single she rented an apt in La Jolla. I love SD for all the reasons everyone does. Especially La Jolla. Definitely crazy expensive w rent/real estate and food/gas. But so close to the beach and always something to do. We considered moving so she can be w her twin. We could afford a nice apt in La Jolla or Encinitas (I really liked the vibe there) but things like vacation/travel would take a hit. Salaries are a little
Higher than here but not enough to totally offset the expenses. And to go from a house w land to a sub 1000sq/ft apt is daunting.

But had some amazing sushi there and loved training at The Gym SD outside. I felt like Arnold in the old days at Venice haha

Check out South Dakota. Not joking.
That’s where I’m at. Winters are hard and summers are brutally hot and crazy humid. Cost of living is cheap but the jobs here don’t pay shit. Too many illegals here working for Pennie’s on the dollar. I’m so sick of these fucking illegals. I may have called a few in last week. A job I was making 3-4 grand a week doing in Washington pays 2000 a month. Houses are not cheap we live in a new 3rd r 2 bath duplex and the want 600,000 for it lol California prices on houses for all the Californians moving here

lol. My sister has a few friends that bought land in TN but not sure where.

lol. You’re right- I was thinking of Northeast. I had to go to Reading a few months back and there was a rest area right before my exit. It was super clean and nice- nothing like the shitty ones on the NJ Turnpike.

Seems like the west is heading more and more towards socialism. More govt intervention, more taxes, more inflation , deteriorating social services, even bigger govt, etc. We all collectively sink towards an inferior standard of living. Yet we have learned nothing.
